How the car donation process works
Start your Fort Worth donation with Drive Change
Begin by telling Drive Change about the car, truck, van, SUV, RV, or other vehicle you want to donate in the Fort Worth area. You do not need to be a vehicle expert, and you do not need to fix it before donating. Donors from neighborhoods such as Downtown Fort Worth, Fairmount, TCU-Westcliff, Wedgwood, and Ridglea can start quickly. The goal is to make your donation easy while keeping the mission clear: your vehicle is donated to benefit Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 58-2164446.
Schedule free towing anywhere around the DFW Metroplex
After your donation is started, a towing partner helps arrange a convenient pickup time. Free tow is available in Fort Worth and throughout the DFW Metroplex, including Arlington, North Richland Hills, Keller, Burleson, Mansfield, Haltom City, and Weatherford. In many cases, the vehicle can be picked up from your home, workplace, repair shop, apartment complex, or storage location. You receive a pickup receipt when the vehicle is collected, giving you a simple record that your donation is underway.
Your vehicle is sold and proceeds go to Heritage
Once the vehicle is picked up, it is processed for sale through the appropriate resale channel. The important point for mission-motivated donors is this: 100-percent of the vehicle sale proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind. Those proceeds support the charity’s work serving people who are blind or visually impaired. Drive Change helps remove the hassle of selling, repairing, or advertising an unwanted vehicle, while your car’s value is converted into funding for a real nonprofit mission.
Proceeds help fund services and benefit navigation
Heritage for the Blind uses vehicle donation proceeds to support services for blind and visually impaired Americans, including helping individuals understand and connect with assistance programs. That may include guidance related to SSI, SSDI, LIHEAP, Section 8, Medicare Extra Help, Medicaid, and other resources that can be difficult to navigate alone. Donors, families, or individuals who want to check eligibility for assistance programs can visit nhftb.org/finder. Your Fort Worth donation helps fund this kind of practical support.
Receive tax documents for your charitable donation
Because Heritage for the Blind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 58-2164446, donations may be tax deductible for donors who itemize deductions. If your donated vehicle sells for more than $500, your deduction generally equals the gross vehicle sale price, and you will receive IRS Form 1098-C for your tax records. Keep your pickup receipt and final tax document. For personal tax advice, speak with a qualified tax professional, but the donation process is designed to provide the documentation donors need.
